Tasteless Cooking Recipe
Haloumi Panko Fries
Crunchy, salty, fried haloumi sticks.

Ingredients
- 400g haloumi cheese
- 200g all-purpose flour
- 100g panko flakes
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 1 tsp white pepper
- 2 eggs
- Oil, for frying
Method
- Mix the flour, smoked paprika, and white pepper in a bowl.
- In a second bowl, beat the eggs.
- Put the panko flakes into a third bowl.
- Cut the haloumi into fish stick-sized pieces.
- Coat each haloumi piece in the flour mixture, then dip into the beaten egg, then coat with panko.
- Heat the oil in a small pan to 180°C.
- Fry the haloumi sticks individually or in small batches so the oil temperature does not drop too much.
- Cook until golden brown, about 5–6 minutes.
- Place the cooked haloumi sticks on a wire rack to drain.
- Repeat until all of the haloumi sticks are cooked.
Notes
These should be served immediately after cooking.
Why it works for taste loss
Haloumi brings strong saltiness and a firm, chewy texture, while the panko coating adds a clear crunchy contrast. Smoked paprika and white pepper add gentle warmth. Served with Tomato Salsa Dip, the hot fried haloumi gains acidity, freshness, garlic sharpness, chili heat, and temperature contrast, making the dish more noticeable for people with reduced taste.
